The value of a well-chosen mattress for a comfortable sleep and rest can hardly be overestimated — after all, this item is responsible for the properties of the surface on which you will lie. And these properties can be different, and the high quality of the mattress itself does not guarantee that it will suit you.
How to choose the right mattress?
First, you need to keep in mind that all mattresses vary in firmness. It is believed that for an ordinary adult with a weight of about 60 – 90 kg, the best choice would be a product of medium hardness, with less weight, soft mattresses are recommended, with more — hard ones. However, these are only general recommendations; besides them, there are specific moments.
So, for some diseases of the back, doctors recommend sleeping on hard beds; and some people simply find it more comfortable to rest on a softer or firmer mattress than recommended for their weight. Soft surfaces are considered more suitable for the cold season, while hard surfaces are more suitable for the warm season. Here it is also worth remembering that there are double-sided mattresses with the so-called winter / summer effect — with different stiffness of the sides and, usually, different coating materials on these sides.
A separate category is children's mattresses: they are made only medium-hard, it is this option that is considered optimal for a growing child.
Modern mattresses can be spring and springless. The second option is generally considered somewhat more advanced, but this difference is still rather arbitrary. But the difference between the two types of spring mattresses — "bonnels" and independent ones — is more pronounced: independent models are considered more orthopedic, but they are also much more expensive.
Recently, mattresses made from materials with the so-called "memory effect". This material allows the surface to take the form that best matches the contours of the lying body and provide a high degree of comfort. The disadvantage of such products is traditional — high price.
Speaking of materials, it is worth noting that many models use anti-allergenic and anti-mite options. It is this option that you should pay attention to if you are striving for maximum hygiene.
Ideally, before buying, it is advisable to test the mattress “live” in order to make sure that its characteristics correspond to your preferences. Also note that, in addition to full-size models, there are so-called futons are thin mattresses that are placed on top of the main ones (for example, to smooth out the bumps of an old sofa).
The same mattress model, usually, is available in different sizes; however, many manufacturers allow the production of non-standard options to order.
