A water meter is a control and measuring device designed to account for the consumption of water supply system resources. All meters are divided into two categories: for cold and for hot water. On the territory of Ukraine, mechanical, ultrasonic and magnetic meters are most widely used. In addition, there are water meters for industrial and domestic purposes. The fundamental difference between the models of these types of devices is the pressure of the working fluid, with which it is necessary to keep records.
When choosing a water meter, you need to take into account the features of the pipeline communications on which the device is planned to be installed. Firstly, if you are installing control and measuring equipment on a hot pipeline, then you need to select a meter for working with hot water.
Secondly, it is necessary to assess the quality of the water itself, supplied through the water supply system. If the water has a large percentage of impurities and all kinds of pollutant particles (most often it is rust), then it is necessary either to equip the housing with a high-quality filter that is installed at the entrance to the apartment, or to purchase an ultrasonic or magnetic meter.
As a rule, magnetic and ultrasonic instruments are more expensive than mechanical meters, and the installation of non-mechanical instrumentation will have a higher technical complexity, which is reflected in the total cost of the installation. Therefore, in most cases, utility subscribers prefer to mount the filter on pipeline communications in order to be able to use the mechanical version of the meter. This series of instruments is characterized by a simple and reliable design. Many users also install coarse filters (these filters are relatively cheap and do not require frequent replacement), which will protect the mechanical counter from getting into the equipment of large contaminant particles.
There is no need to lose sight of such a moment as checking the meter. This procedure is carried out if not annually, then every 2-3 years. Basically, mechanical models of meters are checked most quickly and simply, the cost of their verification is low. But more technologically advanced and complex, in a constructive way, counters, on the contrary, are checked for a completely different price tag. Many subscribers carry out the installation of a water meter in hard-to-reach places in order to remove the equipment from sight. In some ways, such a move allows you to improve the appearance of the room in which the meter is mounted. But a meter installed in a hard-to-reach place will be more problematic to control and maintain.
